This pergola was all about trying to blend a clean custom design with the strength to last. The client’s previous pergola was built from cheap wood and nearly crumbled from the rot. I chose white oak and teak for their density, hardness and water resistance. They’re incredibly heavy, stout woods as well as being beautiful. I used teak for the dowels and splines to give the design a more custom upscale look. The custom furniture I design and build for my Richmond VA clients can range from small coffee tables to this massive structure.
